Boost & Wellbeing

Wellness and wellbeing are rather vague words. In this message we will be focusing on wellbeing, however, we do believe the two are linked. Both words describe an important focus in life. Wellbeing refers to the state of being comfortable, happy, or healthy. Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits often, which will likely result in a sense of wellbeing. Instead of simply surviving, it focuses on thriving. A lot of this is linked to physical health, which undeniably seeps into mental health.

In this crazy world we all share as our home, it is far too easy to turn away from wellness methods. It is a slippery slope, and before you know it, your mental health can be suffering. In return, it provides a negative effect in most areas of your life. When our minds suffer, so do our surroundings. Each of us is personally responsible for keeping ourselves in check. You spend the most amount of time with yourself, meaning it makes the most sense for you to keep yourself in line and not let things slip. When we focus inward, other areas of our lives become easier and our day to day life is more enjoyable.

Life happens, and things get in the way. It is okay to neglect your needs from time to time, this simply means you are human. How often do you prioritize your mental health? How often do you make time for wellness methods? How often do you truly thrive?

In this message, we would like to highlight important aspects of this topic in hopes to help whoever is reading this. Let’s discuss wellbeing and how critical this area of life truly is.

The importance of wellbeing

There is so much to say when ranting about the importance of wellbeing. This is something we at Journey feel is essential for an enjoyable life. Wellbeing often comes down to two things: Physical wellbeing and Mental wellbeing. It is important to give both your physical and mental self attention and care. Let’s look into both and why they are important.

Physical Wellbeing:

Let’s start with the physical side of things. Physical wellness is not a simple absence of disease. It includes taking on a lifestyle of healthy choices to live in a balanced state. Although there are many ways to look after your physical health, let’s break it down into 3 dominant sections.

1. Sleep

This is a vital aspect as it not only affects your physical body, but it also has power over the mental side of things, as well. Sleep plays a serious role in good health and wellbeing throughout life. Getting high grade sleep each night can help improve your quality of life in immense ways. The moments you are awake and the way you feel during the day massively depends on how well you are sleeping at night.

2. Eating Habits

Maintaining clean eating habits is fundamental to a happy and healthy life. Eating healthy helps us keep a healthy weight, which reduces our risk of type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and risk of other diseases/cancers. One of the main links to disease is diet, which definitely speaks for itself when discussing this necessary factor of wellbeing.

3. Exercise

boost exercise

It is no secret that physical activity can improve wellbeing. Regular exercise can improve your muscular strength and boost your endurance. Regular exercise can also boost your immune system. When we exercise, our bodies deliver oxygen and nutrients to our tissue, which helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. In turn, this improves heart and lung health, which means you will have more energy to tackle daily chores and tasks.

It is pretty much guaranteed that you will see significant positive changes in your day-to-day life if you work on improving your sleep, diet, and introduce physical activity into your weekly routine. We urge you to give some of these methods a try if you aren’t already practicing them.

Since the mind and body are linked, prioritizing your physical wellness affects your mental wellbeing. One major benefits to looking after your body is how it can improve your mental health. Let’s move onto mental wellbeing and ways to maximize it.

Mental Wellbeing:

When we work on creating a safe and positive space in our minds, we can enhance our general enjoyment for life, which is a beautiful thing. We can work on this by focusing on creating positive thought patterns, minimizing judgment, and being more kind to yourself. Just as we did above with physical wellbeing, we are going to break down 3 important components that may help you improve your mental wellbeing.

1. Take a break

Taking a break for yourself can do wonders for your mental health. Lots of humans have the tenancy to neglect their own needs due to the pressure of daily tasks, deadlines, and commitments. If you are feeling overwhelmed, take a break. You deserve it. You will probably end up being more productive in the long run if you take the time to reset, recharge, and relax. Even if it means taking 10 minutes out of your busy day to stop, breathe, and perhaps practice stillness or another mindfulness exercise. Listen to your mind/body and know when it’s time to take a break.

2. Stay motivated

Maintaining motivation can promote a happy mind. When we are motivated, it often leaves you feeling good. Most of us have experienced periods of next to no motivation. I think we can all agree, feeling unmotivated to do simple things can feel pretty lousy. When we feel like this, it is easy to get into a rut. On the contrary, you know those periods of time when you feel super motivated, often resulting in a consistently productive routine? You know how amazing that feels? If you are able to balance it out and continue a motivated lifestyle, your mental health will flourish and you will notice great advancements in other aspects of life.

3. Become familiar with your mind

This last point is rather major. When we say ‘becoming familiar with your mind’, what we mean is analyzing your thoughts/emotions in a positive light. It is very important to be in touch and aware of your own thought process. Thoughts come and go constantly. Did you know that the average person experiences 6,000 thoughts per day? When something out of the normal (good or bad) happens, really take note of your natural reaction in your head and the emotions it brings to the surface. When we do this on the regular, we are able to detect patterns with more ease. When we can detect patterns, we can move forward and begin to work on ourselves.

The best form of self-care is working on yourself. Healing, growing and moving forward in life. Working on yourself is the one project in your life that will continue throughout your existence. You can either look at that statement as a scary/negative thing, or you can look at it as an exciting thing. One of the many beautiful aspects of life is the never-ending project of learning to love yourself and make the right decisions. We all have our own issues to work through, which means you are not alone.

When we focus on creating/sustaining wellbeing, our lives naturally become easier. Practicing this can also help us stay in touch with the beauty that life has to offer us.

Obtaining & Maintaining Wellbeing

It is all ‘well and good’ if you implement some of the practices above. However, an important thing is to not give up. The truth is, life will never stop throwing curveballs your way, but when we focus on our wellbeing, these curve balls become easier to deal with and eventually even dodge! Just because you slip and fall does not mean you cannot get back up. This goes with any wellness methods.

For example, if you are trying to eat more healthy, and you end up binging on an entire cake by yourself on Saturday night, giving up and going back to eating unhealthy all the time is not the logical thing to do. So, you ate a whole cake? So what?! That is no reason to give up all future discipline and go back to old eating habits. Instead, try thinking about how much you enjoyed that whole delicious, fluffy, creamy, chocolate cake. Now that you’ve had your enjoyment, it’s time to go back to eating healthy foods for the next while, because your body deserves it after all that cake. There is no reason to punish yourself for being a human. Move on and enjoy some whole foods the following days and focus on nourishing your body. Its called self-respect.

Make sure you also try to surround yourself with people who have the same wellbeing motives as you do. If you spend a lot of your time around people who couldn’t care less about keeping their physical/mental health in check, you are most likely going to have a difficult time. Or, at the beginning of your wellness Journey, maybe it’s best to take some time for yourself to gain some momentum before going back to your usual clique. It’s all one long process and how you go about the beginning of this process is crucial.

One of the best ways to maintain your wellness Journey is by finding a balance. A common timeline consists of an individual craving change so much they go all in and end up right where they started because they jumped off the deep end too soon. Start small and work your way up. Start implementing simple methods that aren’t too mentally/physically demanding or time-consuming. Go at your own pace-these things are all about balance.

Alternative Methods

Before we close this message, let’s quickly go over an alternative method for wellbeing that you most likely won’t find on a motivation blog site, or on an inspirational account on Instagram. Let’s talk about microdosing psychedelics

Microdosing is the act of ingesting a micro-amount of a psychedelic substance with the motive of gaining Microdosing benefits. This micro-amount is so small that it will not result in any ‘high’, even with very potent psychedelics such as LSD and magic mushrooms. Essentially, individuals all over the globe have been microdosing psychedelic substances in order to reap specific benefits off of its very long list of perks. One of those benefits is an increased sense of wellbeing

We know that wellbeing is the state of being happy, comfortable, and healthy. Microdosing has the potential capability to provide an upgraded experience of wellbeing. Microdosing has been known to be used as an aid for anxiety, depression, and generally balancing one’s mood. Microdosing has even been used for treating mental disorders.

When you take a microdose of a psychedelic substance, a lot of lovely changes take place in your brain. Although one of the most common benefits of this practice is heightened focus and productivity, most people who microdose also report that it improves their quality of life and lift your mood. This means that taking a micro-amount of a psychedelic a few times a week could help you maximize general happiness, take more control over your emotions, and possibly even ‘rewire your brain’ in a positive way.

Microdosing often results in a happy, well-functioning brain. When our brain is functioning at it’s best, it can radiate a lot of light into the rest of our lives. Looking after your brain and its functions is important, yet often neglected when speaking about mental health.

Our Final Thoughts

Something we like to say here at Journey is: Mental health begins with brain health!

We all deserve to love life and ourselves along the way. We all deserve to be happy. We all deserve to enjoy the sense of wellbeing. How do you keep your wellbeing in check? Don’t forget, wellbeing doesn’t need to have one set meaning. Wellbeing is an overall, umbrella term for thriving in multiple aspects of life. We believe that wellness should be prioritized. We also believe wellbeing is not an out of reach concept and anyone can obtain it.

One of our main motives at Journey is to assist in improving the lives of individuals in any way we possibly can. The world would inevitably become a better place if the majority of us cared enough to look after ourselves as we tend to look after others. It’s 2020, which means its time for a change. Let’s come together, and make this change happen.

Thank you for your time. We’re all in this together. We are sending you ALL the love & light.
